Duck and Cover

February 5th, 2008

tornado.jpgYikes! There are tornados all around us right now! It looks like the bad stuff has just past us by. We’re all hunkered down in the little office at my mother-in-law’s house. The news on the TV is so ridiculous, they spin bad weather into the apocalypse. What a crazy evening. There goes the siren again “Take cover immediately” over the local PA systems. Worst of all we can’t order Papa Johns online, apparently they don’t deliver during tornado watches. Bummer.

Blog Action Day, The Environment

October 15th, 2007

Today is Blog Action Day In a nutshell, get the world of bloggers to all post on the same topic on one day. The topic is The Environment. I thought about it for a bit and thought I would write outside the box. I think their intention is the environment as it pertains to us globally. I am going to write about my environment. Specifically my desk area. I fully believe that having a comfortable work environment leads to better productivity, as well as more happiness in your day. In my cube (strike one, I pretty much live in a cubicle) I have a pretty sweet set up, as far as cubes go. First off I have a window. That likely makes my cube very desirable. Also the adjacent cube is occupied by my friend so that is also a bonus. We have the two largest cube sections in our office and sit in a corner that is wrapped in windows. It is pretty much like having an office without a door. I have a lot of pictures tacked to the walls of my cube of my family. I also have a picture of the Pokemon “Flygon” that my son, Charlie, did. It’s very cool. Other cube amenities include an iHome iPod clock radio, my “Best of the Best” trophy from 2006, a tux squishy toy, a Buddhist monk squishy toy that has a cell phone and cup of coffee and an assortment of pens, staplers hole punches and office supplies. I am lucky enough to have an ergonomic keyboard and a dual monitor setup. Read the rest of this entry »

Apple StockI have some Apple Stock. I have nurtured it and grown it for a few years now. I fell into a predictable cycle. Every time Apple would announce excellent earnings thier stock would drop. I would then buy. Every year at Macworld in January they would announce the next cool iWidget and the stock would soar. I would then sell. This worked out pretty good for me. I wasn’t making oodles of money but I was making money none the less. Well the stock started climbing the other day and I watched it. It looked like it reached a peak so I sold. My Precious

iPhoneI am just going to come out and say it. The iPhone is pretty much the best thing ever. Yeah, if you rolled up Santa Claus, Greasy Pizza, German Sports Cars, Sausage Gravy, Twinkies, New York Cheesecake, Disney World, The Grand Canyon, Puppy Dog Tails, etc into a ball and then battered and deep fried it AND covered it with powdered sugar you would be somewhat close to being as awe inspiring as the iPhone. Am I being a bit dramatic? Likely. I will say with all honesty though; the iPhone is one of the coolest devices I have ever used. Read the rest of this entry »

pigThis is an old observation that I just recently remembered. In the summer of 2006 we took Charlie to a town near Elizabethtown Kentucky to spend a “Day out with Thomas” as in Thomas the train. We had a grand time and enjoyed the country in that area. My wife suggested on the ride home we take some back roads to see some of the area’s beautiful scenery. We drove through several really small towns. As we passed through one there was a hardware store. In front of the store was a sign. The sign reads, and I am not kidding here, “We Don’t Rent Pigs” My god, what does that mean!
